An open database of stuff and a forum for ideas about stuff.
This site is meant to be an archived database of stuff - which can be just about anything. It tries to hold unbiased information as well as ideas, reviews, pictures, articles, downloads, reports, buying and selling connections, discussion and much more about stuff. Stuffopolis.net is not meant to be a database of everything, or a useless regurgitator of other site's content, but rather a collection of some actual, specific and useful pieces of information on every item in the database.
This site addresses the 'Stuff Cycle' - from what it is, should you get it, where to get it, what to do with it, what to do when you're done with it and on and on. The ideas function gives people the opportunity to vote on what features they want, not just what features the manufacturer's have given you. Each of us has different perspectives, experiences and access to different stuff. We have different requirements, ideas, lives - and we can all give interesting and diverse perspectives to each other. Items can be different as well, unfortunately - find out if something is prone to lemons, check the reviews and then make your own informed decision. This site isn't here to sell you anything - sometimes the best choice is to wait and see what the future holds. Before you buy check it here, maybe you can find the item you're looking at on here, or others like it, or desirable features to keep in mind.
Prices will not be erased and links will not be neutralized, this site is about the free flow of information to give as detailed an idea on the item and all the other options around the world before investing your hard earned money. Hopefully this will help you make as intelligent a decision as possible potentially saving you time, money and frustration. No matter what, your posts will not be edited to make an item seem like a better deal than it really is, and aside from keeping the content clean and family friendly, it will not be changed. Information on defective items will not be removed to mask quality control problems, as other sites tend to do, and just because you posted something it does not cease to be yours: you can edit just about anything you can post and update it at will.
This site is meant to hold reviews and information on useful stuff - be it something meant to keep you warm and dry, prevent stains, do your taxes, take you to the supermarket or hold up a photo - whatever it is, if it's meant to do something you can post here how well it does it (or doesn't). If you've found some novel way to improve, fix or break something, and you think someone else might find that information useful then please do post it. Your own tests and experiences can serve to inform and help others make wise decisions - and their experiences and comments have the potential to help you as well.
As sellers, other sites are in an inherent conflict of interest since they just want to sell and not necessarily help you make the best decision. Many of these sites will alter or delete your reviews, and some, especially Amazon, will automatically add reviews from different products together to try to make the number of reviews for each seem much larger and more extensive. All they seem to look for is that the product is branded by the same manufacturer or looks similar on the outside. This makes the entire collection worthless since you can't tell what the reviewer was originally working with. Since this site is organized by the specific stuff themselves, you can rest assured that if you see a review on this site it is attached to that product in particular and not many other ones that may be entirely different inside.
This site aims to help people and to encourage manufacturers to make products we want rather than what they think we want. New isn't always best, and in many cases you have some item that someone else would love to have - this site helps to connect you to them. There are no charges, if you want to finish the trade on some other site with protections, then go for it. Here you won't have to pay for a listing and hope someone who is willing to pay a fair price does a search for it while it's listed. For the buyer, this way you don't need to buy something just because it's the newest thing and all they sell where you are. You can research on everything with all these different perspectives and information, helping you get the right thing for you. As a consumer, knowledge can only help you - whether it's for yourself or a gift for a friend, check it out here first. And if you find information useful to you, all I ask is that you post something yourself . The more people that know about what you use, the more potential for help and support.
Why buy something new just because their advertising department says you should or the local store wants to push it out the door? Look it up here and see if it's the best fit for you . Be it from a garage sale, a local deal or something at an online shop post or check it out here, it can only help inform us all.
Please keep the site clean and family friendly.
Thanks,
PJPeter
