I did some checking on those two terms from the X520's description - and I found that they are trademarks of Techtium.

It seems pretty interesting, they have tech similar to what's in my AA/AAA Recharge-on-the-Go's - allowing a lowly 1.2V AAA to power a cellphone @ 5V 350mA. Except they go far beyond that - they even have a circuit for powering a laptop with 4 AAs, along with a set of backup lithiums.

Interesting technology - it'd be cool to see laptops and other devices in future with AA compartments. I know my laptop needs 14.4V DC - but the battery pack itself isn't that huge. I could easily fit in the 12 AAs that it would take to get the voltage to 14.4 from 1.2V each into that space. Of course, with this sort of upconverting circuitry you can get from needing 12 to having a decent runtime from 4. After all, 4 average rechargeable AAs today can give about 1.1 amp/hours now (11,000 mAh) - that would give some fair runtime considering the Li-Ion battery pack isn't much more than that. The upconverting would eat into that of course - but some of those circuits are up to 85-93% efficient - of course that's on paper and we're talking ideal full cells here - but still. Even my cheap Recharge-on-the-Go gets around 80+% efficiency in real world usuage (assuming the battery specs are accurate) - so I'd be happy to give this a try.
